In short: in France, a home solar system installed by FreXolaire costs from €6,300 incl. VAT for 3 kWp, €11,000 for 6 kWp and €16,000 for 9 kWp, including fitting and paperwork, with 5.5% VAT when its conditions are met. A 6 kWp system pays back in about 12 years near Paris and about 9 years on the Mediterranean coast (simulated).
This page sets out what a residential solar installation costs in France in 2026, what the price includes, which VAT rate applies, what a battery adds and how long the system takes to pay back. Figures come from FreXolaire, a Paris-based solar installer certified RGE QualiPV that installs across France. The French version is our page installation de panneaux solaires, and all our prices are on Tarifs FreXolaire 2026.
How much does a solar installation cost in France in 2026?
An installed residential system costs from €6,300 incl. VAT for 3 kWp, €11,000 for 6 kWp and €16,000 for 9 kWp. The price per kWp falls as the system grows, from €2,100 at 3 kWp to about €1,778 at 9 kWp. For 6 kWp, the market range we display is €11,000 to €13,000 incl. VAT.
| System size | Installed price from (incl. VAT) | Price per kWp | Yearly output near Paris |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kWp | €6,300 | €2,100 | 3,300 kWh |
| 4 kWp | €8,100 | €2,025 | 4,400 kWh |
| 5 kWp | €10,100 | €2,020 | 5,500 kWh |
| 6 kWp | €11,000 | €1,833 | 6,600 kWh |
| 7 kWp | €12,700 | €1,814 | 7,700 kWh |
| 8 kWp | €14,300 | €1,788 | 8,800 kWh |
| 9 kWp | €16,000 | €1,778 | 9,900 kWh |
Prices include 5.5% VAT, which applies up to 9 kWp under the conditions below. Output: 1,100 kWh per kWp per year in the Paris region (PVGIS 5.2, facing south, 35° tilt, 14% losses).
What does the price include?
The base price covers the equipment (panels, inverter, mounting and electrical protection), fitting on a standard roof and the paperwork: planning declaration to the town hall, grid connection request to Enedis and the Consuel safety certificate. It does not cover roof-integrated mounting, protected heritage areas, complex roofs or a battery, which are quoted separately.
Which VAT rate applies to solar panels?
5.5% VAT applies to systems of 9 kWp or less that meet three conditions: modules certified by Certisolis, an energy management system, and fitting by a certified installer. Otherwise the standard 20% rate applies. Batteries never qualify for the reduced rate, and when a battery is installed in the same operation as the panels, the whole operation is taxed at 20%. For 6 kWp, the reduced rate saves about €1,512 compared with 20% (€10,427 before VAT).
How much does a battery add?
A 10 kWh battery costs €4,500 to €7,500 installed. Installed together with 6 kWp of panels, the whole system costs €17,000 to €20,000, because everything then takes 20% VAT; for 9 kWp and a 14 kWh battery, allow from €24,500. A battery added later, in a separate operation, leaves the original installation at 5.5%.
| Installed option | VAT | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|
| 10 kWh battery on its own | 20% | €4,500 to €7,500 |
| 6 kWp + 10 kWh battery, same operation | 20% on everything | €17,000 to €20,000 |
| 9 kWp + 14 kWh battery, same operation | 20% on everything | from €24,500 |
Battery prices for each model, equipment only, are on our French page prix d’une batterie solaire de 10 kWh, and how batteries work in our French guide de la batterie solaire.
How much does a system produce, and when does it pay back?
A 6 kWp system produces about 6,600 kWh a year in the Paris region and about 9,378 kWh in Toulon. If 60% is used on site, it avoids buying 3,960 kWh at €0.2001 per kWh near Paris, worth €792, and the 2,640 kWh surplus sells at 1.1 c€/kWh, worth €29: about €821 a year, and a payback of about 12 years with electricity prices rising 2% a year. Each kWh you use yourself is worth about 18 times a kWh you export, which is why systems are sized for self-consumption.
| Location | Output per kWp per year | 6 kWp system | Simulated payback, 6 kWp at €11,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Île-de-France (Paris region) | 1,100 kWh | 6,600 kWh/year | 12.0 years |
| Toulon (Var) | 1,563 kWh | 9,378 kWh/year | 8.7 years |
| Marseille | 1,603 kWh | 9,618 kWh/year | 8.5 years |
Southern output is simulated with PVGIS 5.2 using the same parameters as our Paris-region reference, and paybacks use the same method; see our French page prix d’une installation solaire dans le Var et en PACA.
Are there subsidies in 2026?
Not for most homes. The self-consumption bonus was abolished for requests filed from 5 June 2026, and surplus power from systems up to 100 kWp is bought at a single rate of 1.1 c€/kWh, indexed 2% a year over 20 years. Solar is not eligible for MaPrimeRénov’ or energy-saving certificates, and there is no solar income-tax credit for homes. The 5.5% VAT rate, under conditions, is the main advantage.
